COMMUNITY FIRST
Lifelong Malibuite Andy Lyon has shown consistent dedication to the community for over four decadesBorn and raised in the Malibu Colony, Andy was taught to honor and respect the ocean, nature, and his neighbors.
Andy’s dedication to the Malibu community, and the environment, has been prevalent in his activism for numerous environmental issues. He protested against the Malibu Lagoon Project. He advocated against the developers who were able to place a sewer plant 100 yards away from Webster School with the aid of a pro-development council. Andy challenged corrupt, faulty traffic studies to support multiple large-scale commercial development projects, among other worthwhile community causes.
Andy’s role in these high-profile community causes landed him an endorsement by Malibu’s first mayor, Walt Keller in 2014.
Andy has five children he has raised in the Malibu community ranging from 7 to 35 years old.
Born and Raised
Malibu needs increased patrol presence. Our community needs law enforcement the most at night and on the weekends rather than the obvious presence at the bottom of the hill going into the Civic Center. Speed cameras are not the only answer. City officials need to have more communication and input with the Sheriff’s Department and CHP because we pay for those contracts.
As a father of five children, the youngest 7 years old, no other candidate is as invested in Malibu schools as I am. I support Malibu having its own school district. What makes Malibu schools great is parent participation which will ultimately support a strong school system.
As a lifelong Malibuite growing up in the sand and in the ocean, this was one of the main reasons I joined the cause. I have been actively advocating for open space, opposing commercial development, and a sewer project that was placed 100 yards from a school. I have attended multiple Coastal Commission hearings as an advocate and activist for various environmental issues plaguing our community and coastline. I am committed to upholding Malibu’s Vision and Mission statement.
My main objective if elected is to first overhaul the Planning Commission and put an end to the fast pass system that favors developers and expediters over the residents. With a pro-community, pro-preservation majority council, we can hold City staff accountable to a code of conduct instead of being dictated by the whims of a pro-development council and special interests.
